      Solo Albums

After 10 years as frontman for Petra, John ventured forth with his first solo album, "SHAKE," in 1995. Amidst rumors of his leaving Petra, it was made perfectly clear that John not only would remain with Petra, but that he was fully capable of pursuing a solo career simultaneously – a feat no other lead singer in the Christian industry had ever attempted. John not only made the attempt - but he excelled at it.

Following closely on the heels of "SHAKE," "UNFIT FOR SWINE" made its debut in 1996. A very diverse album musically, "SWINE" showcases John’s versatility as a vocalist, with elements of alternative and modern rock in a surprising blend that rages with a distinctive flair that's all John.

After more than 10 years, John's third solo album, "THE GRAFTING," was released in 2008. "THE GRAFTING" has elements of his rock roots, but concentrates as much on the lyrical content as the music, covering mature-themed topics such as adoption, divorce, third world children, and other issues in the adult world.

In 2012, John returned to his rock-roots with "THE GREATER CAUSE," combining elements of classic rock infiltrated with blues rock, rock anthems and heavy rock ballads overlaid with John’s signature vocal style, resulting in a sonic explosion packed with intensity and drive. In other words, there is no doubt that "THE GREATER CAUSE" is a genuine rock album!

After four solo albums, it was time for a "specialty album." What better type of album than one that explores the joy and wonder of Christmas? With traditional songs done "John Schlitt style," plus one original song, "THE CHRISTMAS PROJECT" offers rocking covers of classic carols, a solid original, and a revitalized take on a lesser-known classic.

In 2019, John goes back to the sound he's famous for in "GO," a heavy-hitting rocker that sports that classic John Schlitt feel, the kind of not-too-hard-not-too-soft-rock he's been belting out for three decades. "GO" includes hard rockers, melodious rockers, some acoustically based tunes and a ballad.
